Firefox 3.5 basiert auf der Rendering-Plattform Gecko 1.9.1, die im Laufe des letzten Jahres entwickelt wurde. Firefox 3.5 bietet viele Änderungen gegenüger der vorherigen Version wie die Unterstützung neuer Web-Technologien sowie Verbesserungen an Leistung und Benutzerfreundlichkeit. Einige der bedeutenderen Funktionen sind:

• Verfügbarkeit in über 70 Sprachen. (Holen Sie sich Ihre lokalisierte Version!)
• Unterstützung der HTML5-Elemente <video> und <audio> durch integrierte Abspielfähigkeit von Videos im Format Ogg Theora und Musikdateien im Vorbis-Format. (Probieren Sie es hier aus!)
• Verbesserte Werkzeuge, um Ihre persönlichen Daten zu kontrollieren, darunter der Private Modus.
• Bessere Leistung bei Web-Anwendungen, unter Einsatz der neuen JavaScript-Engine TraceMonkey.

Firefox 3.6 basiert auf der Rendering-Plattform Gecko 1.9.2 von Mozilla, die seit Anfang 2009 entwickelt wurde und viele Verbesserungen für Web-Entwickler, Add-on-Entwickler und Anwender enthält. Diese Version ist außerdem flotter und reaktionsschneller als frühere Versionen und wurde für Betriebssysteme auf Kleingeräten, wie Maemo, optimiert.

Kurz nach der vierten Beta des Firefox 4 schickt Mozilla bereits den Download der nächsten Vorabversion des Browsers ins Rennen: Beta 5 enthält zwei neue Features und wurde hinsichtlich der Oberfläche und der Menüs feingetunt. Der orange "Firefox"-Button ist nach rechts gewachsen und enthält nun sechs neue Einträge. Die Menüpunkte "Lesezeichen", "Chronik", "Downloads", "Add-ons", "Einstellungen" und "Hilfe" lassen sich damit auch über die farbige Schaltfläche aufrufen. Die Einträge der Menüleiste werden außerdem nicht mehr von einem leichten Schimmern umgeben, sondern mit einem hellgrauen Band hinterlegt.

Finaler Add-on-Manager eingebaut
Während die Add-on-Verwaltung in Beta 4 noch in weiß gehalten ist, kommt der neue Manager in dunkelgrau daher. Der Eintrag "Add-ons suchen" kann nach wie vor noch keine Verbindung zu den Servern herstellen. Mozilla hat zusätzlich eine Pfeil-Navigation eingebaut, mit der Sie zwischen den besuchten Abschnitten blättern können. Über das kleine Zahnrad oben rechts lassen sich wie gewohnt alle externen Inhalte auf Updates überprüfen oder der Update-Verlauf anzeigen. Neu ist die Möglichkeit, Erweiterungen im XPI-Format über einen Öffnen-Dialog zu installieren.

Grafische Musik-Darstellung per HTML5
Eine neue Audio-Schnittstelle macht die Visualisierung von Musik im Netz möglich: Durch die Verwendung des HTML5-Tags "audio" können in Webseiten eingebaute Audiodateien grafisch dargestellt werden. Bei der Kreativität sind Webentwicklern mit Balkendiagrammen, farbigen Graphen bis hin zu dreidimensionalen Landschaften kaum Grenzen gesetzt. Das Feature soll laut Firefox-Entwickler Dave Humphrey vor allem unerfahrenen Nutzern die Unterschiede zwischen Firefox und anderen Browsern verdeutlichen. Wer die Beta bereits installiert hat, kann die neue Technik anhand zahlreicher Beispiele ab sofort ausprobieren.

Auch die Sicherheit des Browser wurde erhöht: Das neue Protokoll HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) zwingt Firefox dazu, automatisch gesicherte Verbindungen zu verwenden. Unterstützt eine Webseite das neue Protokoll, speichert Firefox diese Information und unterlässt künftig jede ungesicherte Verbindung. Dieses Verfahren soll verhindern, dass sich Hacker zwischen den Nutzer und die aufgerufene Webseite einklinken und beispielsweise Log-in-Daten abfangen können.

Hardware-Unterstützung jetzt offiziell
Was in Beta 4 nur umständlich über den about:config-Dialog zu erreichen war, funktioniert jetzt über das herkömmliche Options-Menü: Damit Firefox 4 Ihre Grafikkarte beim Anzeigen und Berechnen komplexer Seiteninhalte beansprucht, öffnen Sie den Reiter "Erweitert" in den Firefox-Optionen. Im Abschnitt "Browsing" finden Sie den noch nicht übersetzten Eintrag "Use hardware acceleration when available". Einen Klick später nutzt Firefox die Power der Grafikkarte. Voraussetzung ist neben einer DirectX-10-fähigen Grafikkarte Windows 7 oder Vista.


An der zugrundeliegenden Beschleunigungs-Technik wurde im Vergleich zur Beta 4 weiter verbessert. Alle Bilder zu der neuen Beta-Version des Firefox sehen Sie auch in unserer Fotostrecke. Die Beta 5 steht außerdem ab sofort als kostenloser Download für Sie bereit. Dies war übrigens nicht die letzte Testversion zu Firefox 4: Laut Mozillas Plänen erscheinen in den nächsten Monaten noch Beta 6 und 7.

Im November kommt die ganz neue Version 4. Dafür werden einige Updates übersprungen. Der neue Firefox sill ein geiles Design haben und leicht zu bedienen sein und er soll schneller als Opera und Google Chrome sein.

Der FireFox Button ist Eiskalt von Opera geklaut worden^^^^

Ist der in der Windowsversion etwa schon verbaut? Wenn ja, dann mach bitte Screenshots. Denn normalerweise müsste nämlich Firefox 4 noch genauso aussehen wie Firefox 3.6

Auf den Screenshots sieht man den Button auch, also wieso sollte er nicht eingebaut werden?

Die Screenshots sind ein MOCKUP, dass hatte ich dir aber schon mal gesagt. Firefox 4 sieht immo immer noch so aus, wie Firefox 3.6.

Also bei mir ist der Firefox Button sehr wohl drin und auch die Optik ist nicht wie bei Version 3.6 . Ich hab mal 2 Screenshots gemacht und angehängt.

• Firefox 4 Beta 4 is available in 39 languages.
• Firefox Sync is now included by default.
• A new feature gives users a visual overview of all open tabs, allowing them to be sorted and grouped.
• An experimental API is included to provide more efficient Javascript animations.
• Firefox now supports the HTML5 video "buffered" property.

As well as these features from previous Firefox 4 Betas:

• Tabs are now on top by default on Windows and OSX - Linux will be changing when the theme has been modified to support the change.
• You can turn any tab into an "App Tab" by right-clicking on it and selecting "Make into App Tab" from the context menu.
• Web developers can animate content using CSS Transitions.
• Responsiveness and scrolling improvements from the new retained layers layout system.
• JavaScript speed improvements due to engine optimizations.
• Changes to how XPCOM components are registered in order to help startup time and process separation.
• You can search for and switch to already open tabs in the Smart Location Bar.
• New Addons Manager and extension management API (UI will be changed before final release).
• Significant API improvements are available for JS-ctypes, a foreign function interface for extensions.
• The stop and reload buttons have been merged into a single button on Windows, Mac and Linux.
• The Bookmarks Toolbar has been replaced with a Bookmarks Button by default (you can switch it back if you'd like).
• Crash protection for Windows, Linux, and Mac when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.
• CSS Transitions are partially supported.
• Full WebGL support is included but disabled by default at this time.
• Core Animation rendering model for plugins on Mac OS X. Plugins which also support this rendering model can now draw faster and more efficiently.
• Native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format.
• An experimental Direct2D rendering backend is available on Windows, turned off by default.
• Web developers can use Websockets for a low complexity, low latency, bidirectional communications API.
• Web developers can update the URL field without reloading the page using HTML History APIs.
• More responsive page rendering using lazy frame construction.
• Link history lookup is done asynchronously to provide better responsiveness during pageload.
• CSS :visited selectors have been changed to block websites from being able to check a user's browsing history.
• New HTML5 parser.
• Support for more HTML5 form controls.
• Web authors can now get touch events from Firefox users on Windows 7 machines.
• A new way of representing values in JavaScript that allows Firefox to execute heavy, numeric code (used for things like graphics and animations) more efficiently.
